How a seed grows
How seeds grow
Seeds are a vital part to our life. If there are no trees there would be no life. So how do they grow?
A seed has a tiny plant inside of it called an embryo. This embryo needs some special conditions such as moisture, warmth, nutrient rich soil and sunlight to grow. The embryo absorbs water from the soil, the soil provides moisture and nutrients for the embryo. Plant cells in the seed start to duplicate and the enzymes get activated.
The embryo gets nourishment from from the soil. The first sign of growth is a tiny root and the embryo gets more nourishment and the embryo grows a bit more. The plant bursts through the soil in search of sunlight the seed coat has fallen off the leaves are in search of photosynthesis and carbon dioxide.
The seed roots anchor into the soil to keep the plant stable. The roots are now searching for nutrients. The shoot grows up towards the light. The shoot is now developing into a plant. The conditions it needs is sunlight and water.
Do you know a seed has amazing dna it knows when to start growing.

The freezing water splashes into my face. The knee high mendacious mud slows my legs. We grip to the sky high ropes. The water dances down my led like a ballerina. The steam rises off the hot pool as we jump in

Choices of Life Production
Two weeks before production I’m feeling quite confident. One thing I’m feeling a bit nervous about is coming in, but I think I can learn my lines in time.
I played a Doc worker in the production. It was fun. Max and I did a crazy dance. I learnt that it was fun and after my first performance, I was confident... but my first was a bit nerve-wracking. I felt shy when I was doing my dance... like I didn’t want to do it. I enjoyed it when I said "I’ll have a bushman's pie please" because the parents laughed.

Speech
Speech By Mac
Tweet tweet, kek kek kek, morepork morepork! Hi my name is Mac and I’m here to tell you why New Zealand birds are special. There are many reasons why the birds of New Zealand are special. 70% are only found in New Zealand like the Kiwi, Takahe, Kea, and Kakapo.
One of the biggest effects on our native birds are pests like possums, stoats, ferrets, rats, feral cats and hedgehogs. Pests have a big impact on NZ native birds because they eat their eggs which causes them not to be born, they eat the birds and they also eat their habitat, because possums eat the tree leaves and kill the trees. If too many pests eat the native birds and their eggs that means they will become more and more closer to being extinct this means there won’t be any in the future to make NZ NZ.
Here are some facts about NZ native birds.
Did you know that 95% of Kiwi chicks die before they are 6 months old and most of them are killed by stoats. There are about 68,000 Kiwi left in the whole world. We hear a lot about the Kiwi being endangered but there are other New Zealand native birds more endangered than Kiwi such as the Black Stilt which has 106 left in the wild, Kakapo which has fewer than 160 left in the wild, and the New Zealand Fairy Tern has only 45 left in the wild and is probably New Zealand’s rarest native bird.
Another threat to our native birds is the loss of places for them to live. Over the years lots of our native birds bush and wetlands have been removed. We need to make sure we look after the land that’s left for our birds.
What can we do to help our native birds in the future?
Have you thought about joining the Pirongia conservation group. They do pest control in an area on Pirongia Mountain and are re-introducing birds that were once there but are not anymore. We need to make sure we keep the pest numbers down so there is nothing to hurt our birds anymore.

My diesection dream
My dissection dream
By Mac
Bubble bubble, as the pongy guts spew into my face. The blood oozes out of the heart like a gigantic 1 million degree volcano. Slowly, I cut the disgusting juicy heart like it was nothing. Huh huh! I breath deeply it was all a dream.
